In Philip Yancey’s book The Jesus I Never Knew he discusses the Ascension of Christ. Philip notes that this event inspired the coining of the latin phrase - deus absconditus (hidden, or concealed, god).
What excited me most about Philip’s explorations of this historically significant event was the [seemingly, with hindsight] obvious conclusion he arrived at; God is in fact hidden, but not. He is visible to us through the poor, in whom we have the opportunity to demonstrate our love; His love.
These things represent a great personal challenge. Whatever I do, or do not do, to the least of my brothers – Jesus’ brothers; that same act or omission I do to Him. Such is the great value God places on the poor.
